Centering Doubt

Written by Rev. Dr. Christie Love

In some sacred spaces, truths are proclaimed loudly while questions are discouraged and doubts are silenced. In this sacred space, we acknowledge that doubt does not dismiss faith; rather, it can be a tool of exploration that can widen and deepen our current understanding.

Your questions, your doubts, and your skepticism are welcome in this space.

Questions invite exploration. May we have the courage to name our doubts and our skepticism in this space and process them together as points of connection with one another and with the divine.

We embrace the holy gift of curiosity in this space today.

As we doubt, discuss, wonder, question, and explore- we challenge what is known and what is accepted. With each of these actions, we make space for possibility, learning, and growth.

May there always be room for new possibilities and perspectives in this community and our individual faith journeys.

Unison Prayer:

Creator God, thank you for the gift of curiosity. May it shape our seeking and our study of this wide world, your vast presence, and your divine character. May we never tire of following our doubts, our questions, and our wondering to shape our journeys.
